FABRIC: the Urban Design End of Year Show 2022

After a break of 3 years due to Covid-19, the Urban Design End of Year Show stormed back with an amazing opening night on 27 May 2022. The theme for 2022 is FABRIC.

A diverse range of work produced in modules from the BA Urban Design, Planning and Development, the MA Urban Design and the PhD programme in Urban Design is displayed in our Urban labs. The diversity of the work is knitted together by the creative work of the Art and Design students. The show will be open from Friday 27 May to Friday 1 July and is located on the second floor of the Abercrombie Building on our Headington campus. Come and take a look!

I went along a few days before it opened and also on the opening night to take some photos...

Oxford Brookes Learning Spaces: a collage workshop

On 8 February 2022, UrbOx, the student-led society for Urban Design at Oxford Brookes invited students and staff from across the university to join them for a collage workshop to discover and discuss how people would like their learning spaces to be post-pandemic. The session (with free pizza) attracted a variety of students from different subjects including: urban design, film and computer science. From the photos and results, it looked like a great evening (thanks to Laura Novo de Azevedo for the photos):

Urban Design Workshop with Oxford Academy

A group of first year students from the BA Urban Design, Planning and Development recently ran an Urban Design workshop with sixth form students from the Oxford Academy. The workshop was designed to develop visions and ideas for the improvement of the Blackbird Leys Central District and is part of a live project to be presented to Oxford City Council.

The day was structured around a number of activities to challenge the students to think about their local environment and how they would like it to look in the future. These included drawing mental maps of the area to explore legibility: a visioning exercise to collect together ideas on how the Central District could be improved and a modelling exercise aimed at translating these ideas into changes on the ground.
